Several files are played in name order (walk_1, walk_2 … walk_10). One file is treated as a sprite sheet
PNG · JPG · WebP · GIF (first frame) · BMP. Your images stay on your device.

How to turn a sprite sheet into a GIF

  1. Drop several frame files, or one sprite sheet. A horizontal strip is detected automatically
  2. For a sheet, set the columns and rows, and the frame count if the last cells are empty
  3. Set the speed in frames per second and choose Loop or Ping-pong
  4. Pick a scale (pixel art looks best at 2×–4× with smoothing off)
  5. Click Download GIF, or save the frames as numbered PNGs

Made for game developers

  • Check timing early: 8–12 fps suits most pixel-art walk cycles, 24 fps suits smooth hand-drawn animation.
  • Ping-pong plays the frames forward and back (1-2-3-2-1), which is handy for idle, breathing and floating loops.
  • Transparent GIFs: GIF supports fully transparent pixels but not soft edges. Semi-transparent pixels become either solid or invisible. For soft shadows, pick a background color instead.
  • Sheet to frames: Download frames cuts a sheet into name_1.png, name_2.png… at the chosen scale.

Build the sheet first with the sprite sheet maker, or cut an existing one with the sprite sheet cutter.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the sprite animation & gif maker tool.

How do I convert a sprite sheet to a GIF?

Drop the sheet, set the columns and rows, choose the speed and click Download GIF.

Why does my GIF look different from the PNG?

GIF can only store 256 colors and on/off transparency. Pixel art keeps its exact colors. Photos and soft shadows are reduced to the closest 256 colors.

What is the fastest speed a GIF can play?

GIF stores frame times in hundredths of a second, so 50 fps is the maximum. Many browsers slow down very fast GIFs, so use 30 fps or less for sharing.

Are my sprites uploaded?

No. The preview and the GIF are made in your browser. Your art never leaves your device.
