Compress PDF
Shrink a PDF to fit an upload limit, like 200 KB for a certificate or 1 MB for an email. Your document never leaves your device.
✓ No upload, 100% private✓ No sign-up✓ Works on phone & desktop
How the compression works
Each page is drawn again at a lower resolution and saved as a JPEG image inside a new PDF, with the same page size. With Target size, the tool tries the sharpest resolution and quality first and lowers them only as much as needed to fit your limit.
- Best for scans and photos: scanned certificates, mark sheets, ID cards and photo PDFs often shrink by 80–95%.
- Text becomes part of the image: you can still read and print it, but you can't select or search the text afterwards. Keep the original if you need that.
- Already small? PDFs made of plain text are often tiny already. If compressing would make the file bigger, the tool keeps your original.
- Exam uploads: NEET and JEE ask for certificates as PDFs of 50–300 KB. Type 300 KB as the target. Need to make the PDF first? Use JPG to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about the compress pdf tool.
How do I compress a PDF to 200 KB?
Drop the PDF, choose Target size and type 200 KB (or click the 200 KB chip). Download it when the ✓ appears.
Why can't I select the text after compressing?
Each page is saved as an image, which is what makes scans so much smaller. The text looks the same but is no longer selectable.
My PDF did not get smaller. Why?
It probably contains mostly text and is already small. The tool keeps your original in that case. Try Black & white or the Strong level for scans.
Is there a page limit?
No fixed limit, but very long PDFs take longer because every page is drawn in your browser.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Remove the password first, then compress it.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is opened and compressed in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.
