Taking the live photo in the form
The form also asks you to take a live photo with your webcam or phone camera. You can't upload a file for it, but a few things make it pass the first time:
- Face a window or a bright light. Don't sit with a window behind you.
- Stand in front of a plain white or light wall.
- Take off caps and dark glasses. Look straight at the camera with your face and ears visible.
- Hold the phone at eye level, about an arm's length away, so your face fills most of the frame.
- Never take a photo of an old printed photo. Forms reject it.
Common JEE Main photo mistakes
- Black and white photo: JEE Main accepts colour photos only. Keep Black & white off.
- Face too small: crop so your face fills about 80% of the frame, with both ears visible.
- Busy background: use a plain white wall.
- Signature: sign with a black ink pen on plain white paper, take a photo in daylight from straight above, and keep Whiten paper, darken ink on. Grey shadows disappear and the ink becomes clear.
Class 10 certificates must be PDFs of 50–300 KB. Make one with JPG to PDF.
