About HEIC photos

iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container). The files are small and sharp, but many places still can't open them: Windows without an extra codec, older Android phones, and most online forms and upload pages.

  • JPG works everywhere. At 92% quality it looks the same as the original.
  • PNG keeps every pixel but makes much bigger files.
  • WebP gives the smallest files for websites.

The first time you open an HEIC photo, your browser downloads a small HEIC reader (about 3 MB). It runs on your device, so your photos are never uploaded. In Safari no download is needed.

Every other tool on SpriteSplit also accepts HEIC now. You can reduce an iPhone photo to 50 KB or resize it for a form directly.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the heic to jpg tool.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?

Open this page, drop the HEIC files and click Download ZIP. You don't need to install any app or codec.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many as you like. They are converted one after another and saved together in a ZIP.

Will I lose quality?

At the default 92% JPG quality the difference is not visible. Choose PNG if you need every pixel unchanged.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The HEIC reader runs in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.

Why does the first photo take a few seconds?

Your browser downloads the HEIC reader once (about 3 MB). After that, photos open quickly, even offline.
