All files are JPG/JPEG. Checked against the UPSC CAPF 2026 notice and OTR FAQ in November 2026. Rules can change between exam cycles, so compare with your own notice before you submit.

Taking the live photo in the form

The form also asks you to take a live photo with your webcam or phone camera. You can't upload a file for it, but a few things make it pass the first time:

  • Face a window or a bright light. Don't sit with a window behind you.
  • Stand in front of a plain white or light wall.
  • Take off caps and dark glasses. Look straight at the camera with your face and ears visible.
  • Hold the phone at eye level, about an arm's length away, so your face fills most of the frame.
  • Never take a photo of an old printed photo. Forms reject it.

About the KB limits

Older UPSC notices allowed up to 300 KB for each file. The 2026 notices allow up to 200 KB for the photo and 100 KB for the signature, with a minimum of 20 KB. Files that fit the new limits also fit the old ones, so the tool uses them. Some exams, like the Combined Medical Services exam, can ask for a very recent photo. Read your notice for the date rule.
