Taking the live photo in the form
The form also asks you to take a live photo with your webcam or phone camera. You can't upload a file for it, but a few things make it pass the first time:
- Face a window or a bright light. Don't sit with a window behind you.
- Stand in front of a plain white or light wall.
- Take off caps and dark glasses. Look straight at the camera with your face and ears visible.
- Hold the phone at eye level, about an arm's length away, so your face fills most of the frame.
- Never take a photo of an old printed photo. Forms reject it.
Do I still need a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo file?
Not for current SSC exams. Since 2025, SSC forms take your photo live, and a photo of an older picture is rejected. Some older forms and other departments still ask for a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo of 20–50 KB. For those, pick Photo (older forms) above.
Keep a few printed passport photos ready anyway. You may need them at the exam centre.
